Fofie Foundation

Every child deserves a school to go to

In the village of Daban near Kumasi our school is already standing: 24 classrooms with walls and a roof. What still has to happen is the finishing on the inside, because without a floor, windows and doors no lessons can be taught. That is where your gift goes, classroom by classroom.

What we stand for

We build on the dream of Nana Fofie: good education in the region of Ghana where he was born. What we raise here is built there by Ghanaian craftsmen. Nobody is flown in, the community builds its own school.

The walls are up. Together we finish the school.

Our own building team has built 24 classrooms up to the roof. Now comes the finishing on the inside, classroom by classroom, so the children can learn there. Every gift brings the opening closer.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

Is my gift to Fofie Foundation tax deductible?+

Yes. Fofie Foundation is an ANBI, so your gift is deductible for income tax. A periodic gift has no threshold and no maximum.

Where does my money go?+

To the construction and finishing of the school in Daban: materials, the local building team and the furnishing. Only bank and transaction costs are deducted, and those are limited.

Who will pay the teachers?+

Teachers' salaries run through the Ghanaian government (Ghana Education Service). The foundation builds and furnishes the school; the government provides the education itself.

How do I know my gift really arrives?+

You see the status of each classroom and what its finishing still needs. We record every building phase on photo and every expense is in the annual accounts.

What does it cost to finish a whole classroom?+

Finishing and furnishing a whole classroom costs about 6,000 euros. That covers materials, painting, doors, windows and furniture, carried out by the local building team.

Can my company sponsor a classroom?+

Yes. Your company can sponsor a classroom with a name plaque inside and a photo update when it is finished. Visible corporate responsibility with impact you can check.

Building schools in Ghana, together with the community

Fofie Foundation is a Dutch ANBI charity that builds schools in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. We work small-scale and with our own local building team, so the money you give goes straight to the construction. You can donate to education in Ghana securely via iDEAL, and because we are an ANBI your gift is tax deductible.

The foundation builds on the dream of Nana Fofie, the father of co-founder Dennis Toppin. Together with his best friend Brian, both with Ghanaian roots, he makes sure children in the region around Kumasi get a good education.
